This Thursday, May 13th, will be the final book club discussion of the inaugural 2020/21 season. We are incredibly fortunate and honoured to have Special Guest Elaine Alec the author of Calling My Spirit Back joining us for our Zoom discussion.
Elaine Alec is a member of Syilx and Secwepnec Nations, and a direct descendent of hereditary chiefs, Pelkamulaxw and Soorimpt. A political advisor, women’s advocate and teacher, Alec is a founding partner of Alderhill Planning Inc., an Indigenous-owned-and-operated company. She is a regular speaker at conferences and workshops on the topics of Indigenous planning, governance, healing and trauma-informed approaches to planning.
Alec recently completed a 3-year term as the Union of BC Indian Chiefs Women’s Representative where she advocated for the health and safety of Indigenous women and girls through facilitating safe spaces to plan and drive policy change at various levels of government.
Calling My Spirit Back combines a powerful, personal, and honest examination of lived experience with a much broader overview of serious national sociological concerns, accompanied by tangible steps to approach them.
Please join us on Thursday, May 13th on 7 PM to discuss
