The First World War’s 172nd Battalion Rocky Mountain Rangers 1916-1919 by Leonard J. Gamble.

This is the story of the 172nd Battalion, Rocky Mountain Rangers: its inception, recruitment, and training in Canada, followed by travel to England, its dissolution, and dispersal to numerous other units, where the men made a significant contribution to the Allied effort.

The men of the 172nd did not fights as a cohesive unit, as they had hoped, but they were a substantial presence in many front-line battalions as well as in support units such as the Forestry Corps, Railway Troops, Pioneer Battalion and Engineers.
