Speaker Series with Cynthia LeBrun
Join the MAV on September 21, 2024, from 1 to 3 pm for a remarkable event featuring award-winning author Cynthia LeBrun. As part of the OHS/MAV Speaker Series, LeBrun will present her latest novel, Black Sunflowers. This deeply moving story is inspired by the vivid memories of her mother-in-law, who experienced life in Soviet-occupied Ukraine.
This event holds particular significance for Vernon, which has a significant Ukrainian population that also felt the effects of Soviet occupation. The presentation will include a reading from Black Sunflowers followed by a Q&A session where attendees can engage directly with LeBrun. Copies of the novel will be available for purchase, and LeBrun will be signing books after the presentation. Admission is by donation, with all proceeds going to support humanitarian aid in Ukraine. However, as seating is limited, the MAV kindly asks attendees to reserve in advance.

Tiny Treasures to Trade
Do you have a tiny treasure to trade? The Museum & Archives of Vernon will be home to the Vernon’s Free Little Art Gallery from September 25 to 28, 2024.
A Free Little Art Gallery — “FLAG” for short — is like a Little Free Library, but for small artworks instead of books. If you see something in the gallery you like, take it home. Or create something you want to share, and leave it for someone else to take away and love.
An important difference between Little Free Libraries and FLAGs is that people who put a book into a Little Free Library, generally didn’t write the book themselves.
So, Bring your mini artwork, whether it’s a doodle, a miniature painting, or a tiny sculpture, down to the Vernon Museum. No masterpiece is too small! Open the mini gallery door, place your mini marvel inside, and take a peek inside at the incredible mini artistry.
Swap your art for someone else’s, and let the mini art community flourish!
After it leaves the Vernon Museum, catch the FLAG at the Okanagan Regional Library.
Join this mini art revolution and let your creativity shine!
